چکیده
Pneumorrhachis, the presence of intraspinal air, is rarely described in the literature. Because of its rarity, evaluation of this condition is not fully understood. Non traumatic pneumorrhachis is a very rare phenomenon and mostly associated with violent coughing or bronchial asthma. Herein we describe a case of pneumorrhachis due to gas forming infection of abdominal wall muscles and fasciae associated with poorly controlled diabetes which to the best of our knowledge has never been reported in the literature so far.

Emphysematous cystitis in a patient with type-2 diabetes mellitus
A 62-year-old woman with a history of poorly controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus was admitted to our hospital with a 3-week history of mild fever, vomiting, and anorexia. Abdominal computed tomography (CT) showed bilateral hydronephrosis and gas accumulation in the urinary bladder wall and left ureter. Laboratory tests showed leukocytosis and elevated C-reactive protein level. Urine culture sho...

Pneumorrhachis (PR), which involves the entrapment of air or gas within the spinal canal, is a rare clinical entity. The pathogenesis and etiology of this uncommon entity vary and may present a diagnostic challenge. Air in the spinal canal can be divided into primary and secondary PR, extra- or intradural PR and etiologically classified as iatrogenic, traumatic and non-traumatic. PR is typicall...
متن کاملEmphysematous Gastritis Associated with Invasive Gastric Mucormycosis: A Case Report
Emphysematous gastritis is a rare form of phlegmonous gastritis, characterized by air in the wall of the stomach due to invasion by gas-forming microorganisms. The most commonly involved microorganisms are streptococci, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Clostrodium perfrigens and Staphylococcus aureus. Gastrointestinal mucormycosis is another rare condition, which is most frequently occ...

Emphysematous pyelonephritis, a necrotizing infection of the renal parenchyma caused by gas-producing organism, is a rare but life-threatening condition. The initial presentation could be non-specific. We report a case of emphysematous pyelonephritis in a patient presenting with poorly controlled diabetes mellitus and severe sepsis. Its pathogenesis and management are briefly discussed. (Hong K...
متن کاملA rare cause of acute lower abdominal pain: Emphysematous cystitis.
Emphysematous cystitis is a relatively rare infection characterized by the accumulation of air within the urinary bladder wall and bladder lumen. Diabetes mellitus and neurogenic bladder are the major risk factors of emphysematous cystitis. The clinical presentation varies from asymptomatic to fatal disease state. Computed tomography is the best diagnostic imaging modality. Here, we present a c...
